People ask me, “Why am I running for Congress?” It’s because I want my children to grow up in a free country with the protections of our Constitution. I want MLK’s dream to be their reality. I’m a mother of six including 7-year-old triplets. I’m fighting for their future and the future of all families in CA26. I’m here with you, I live and work in CA26. Your future is my future. We are in this together!
I strongly support our police officers, our military, and our veterans. These heroes put their lives on the line every day or have already served. They keep us free and they keep us safe. If elected I will vote to keep them funded and make sure they have the best equipment so that they can continue doing their job of protecting us. My Father is a Vietnam Veteran and so I understand what it means to serve. It’s a special calling. As a nation, we owe these men and women a debt of gratitude for their service. I will always fight for them and for their hard-earned benefits.
We need to get our economy going again. We also need to do it safely. That is the challenge. As Americans have we ever backed down from a challenge? The answer is a resounding NO! Our citizens are hurting and we need to get them back to work. Some are struggling to pay rent and put food on the table. I will support helping those in need as a result of this pandemic. Every state is different, but we all need a faster turn around on Covid-19 testing and uniform guidelines for workplace and school safety. In-person school needs to reopen so that the parents can go back to work. Our biotech companies are working around the clock, and we will have a vaccine soon. Together, we can do this!
I care deeply about education. Many of our children are failing in the basics of reading and math. They graduate from high school testing well below grade level. As the greatest country in the world, this is unacceptable. We must do better!
I am originally from Wisconsin. My Great Great Grand Father was a slave that escaped to the North and fought for the Union Army. My Great Grand Father was the first African-American to be elected to the Wisconsin State Legislature. I believe in hard work and responsibility because it was handed down from my family. I started out as a building inspector, then a paralegal, and then finally an attorney all while raising a family. Without hard work and personal responsibility, I could not have done it. Am I proud to be an American? Absolutely! The blood of my ancestors is in the soil, and therefore I own it, just like all Americans.
I am a practicing criminal/civil litigator. I recently defended our 2nd amendment rights when I fought to get our gun stores back open. I am a strong believer in the Constitution and I will continue to defend our rights. I am also the Dean of a California Law School. I live in Oak Park with my husband and best friend Michael, and our three seven-year-old triplets Annabel, Bianca, and Liam.
I live in the District and my children go to school here. My husband works in the District. I pledge that I will hold regular town hall meetings when I’m back home. My staff will answer the phone and be available to attend to the concerns of our constituents. I will be visible and make myself available to the residents of CA-26.
